Troubleshooting your sliding door or window

If your sliding door or window doesn't slide smoothly, here are a few things you may check:

1. Bearings - if you have pets, there's a good chance you have pet hair caught in the bearings. If you can , take a tweezer or a needle nose pliers and remove the hair.

2. Bearings - grease escape could also cause the bearings to fail. Carefully re-lube the bearings and your door will start sliding smoothly.

3. Lube - not all lubricants are suitable. Ask wizard screens  for a recommendation.

4. Rollers - rollers, typically made from plastic can fail from continuous use. These may need replacement id visual damage is noticeable.

Getting ready for winter? tips to keep your energy bill down.

Now that winter is almost here, there are several things you can do to keep your energy costs from rising.

1. Install self-adhesive rubber strips at your local hardware store to keep out drafts.

2. Use heavy layered curtains on your doors and windows  to keep the drafts out.

3. Draft snakes, when carefully placed, can also prevent cold air from creeping in.

4. Install insulating shades (aka cellular shades). These will keep your house warmer.

Maintaining your Wizard Screen doors and windows

Use a household glass cleaner or a mild detergent & warm water mixture to clean your door/window.
A soft cloth or a paper towel can be used for drying, but do not completely dry it.

For household cleaners, use Windex, 409 or Fantastik. Always follow the manufacturer's recommendations.

Never use Acetone or products containing bleach, esters, ethers, ketones, aromatic and chlorinated hydrocarbons.

For hinges use a silicone spray lubricant or lithium-based oil.
